Our Certified Nurse-Midwives

In this most interesting profession of nurse-midwifery, one of the most common myths is "you only see pregnant women and deliver babies at home." Nothing could be further from the truth. What is a Certified Nurse-Midwife? She is a registered nurse with a master's degree in midwifery. Nurse midwives play a special and unique roll in women's health care. Their caring and compassionate qualities are well appreciated by their patients, as well as the extended time given for the office visit and the ease of scheduling appointments. They provide preconception and prenatal care, supporting women during labor and delivery in their chosen method of childbirth. Midwives are committed to their patient's particular needs, without sacrificing prudent medical interventions. In addition to obstetric care, they provide full scope gynecological care through annual exams, contraception, teen health exams and counseling, conventional and alternative therapies for perimenopause and menopause, testing and treatment for osteoporosis, and many other treatments and care related to women's health. Our midwives offer childbirth classes at the office, as well as non- stress testing and 3D/4D ultrasound. They deliver patients at Erlanger Hospital, Erlanger East, and Parkridge East Hospital.

Lori Clemmons, CNMLori Clemmons, CNM

B.S. in Nursing, ETSU
Master’s in Midwifery, Frontier School of Midwifery, 2008

North Park OB-GYN welcomed Lori to their team of women's health providers in the spring of 2010. A native of Jamestown, N.C., she has made her home in Chattanooga for 22 years. She has a solid background in labor and delivery, and strives to honor the normalcy of women's life-cycle events and allow for watchful waiting and non-intervention in normal processes. Lori has a strong passion for empowering women in their healthcare decisions and labor and delivery experiences.  While focusing on health promotion during routine gynecological visits, preconception, prenatal visits, teen care, reproduction, and pre- and post-menopausal care, she makes every attempt to support her patients in their choices for pain relief during active labor and delivery, and uses appropriate collaboration with other healthcare providers when needed.

When asked how she became interested in midwifery, she replied, “While I was pregnant with our first child, I went to see Certified Nurse-Midwife Anne Ramsey at North Park OB-GYN for my prenatal care.  While sitting in her office and talking with her, I realized how incredible her job was.  At that moment, I knew that was the career path I wanted to pursue.  I am so happy with my job and have come full circle, now working in the office where I first got my inspiration.”

Lori has been married to her husband Terry for nearly 23 years and has 2 lovely daughters.
